Steps to crack interviews in first go
Why not able to crack interviews
This may be a very odd topic that I must have chosen to start blogging but my experience and understanding has always told me that this is the first response of every candidate who gets rejected (though a strong word) or said that they will be in touch (a more subtle way to say that you are not selected).
The issue starts when rejection comes multiple times especially when one needs job or need job change. While taking interviews within 5-10 mins the interviewer knows whether he/she wants the candidate or not. Below are some of the points that I found the reason for rejections.
Not serious enough
This is the number one reason for rejection. Though every recruiter may have different ways of identifying it. But some of the common things are the resume is not updated with recent information. The candidate is not able to answer questions of latest events, technologies. Many times, candidate seems aloof or seems like that (may not be the case in real). I once had a candidate who was playing games in the mobile in the reception which the HR saw. The HR felt he was not serious enough. When asked why he was playing the answer was he was very nervous because of the interview and hence wanted to cool down. The game was the way of doing so.
Sometimes candidate tries to act cool in a way to show the interviewer that he/she can handle pressure well but in doing so don’t know when to stop or how much to show. Ends up giving a different understanding to the interviewer.
Though this should not be a criterion because cloths do not define one’s knowledge but in this materialistic world this seems very important. If you ask me if I have rejected any resource/candidate based on this then my answerer is no because I know resources/candidates who just simply don’t care about cloths their mind is occupied in work or more serious task. But I also know candidates who have been rejected on basis of attire by some of my colleagues so to make it fail proof I would always suggest candidates to dress in formal simple attire (not too much not too less but moderate).
Trying to be over smart
People like smart candidates and not over smart. If you don’t know the answer to the question politely say you don’t but still, try to attempt it. If at end the interviewer says the answer is not correct apologies and let it go. Don’t argue.
Don’t believe in Change
Many a times interviewer may give you a scenario about the current work that he is doing. Try to attempt the question with open mind and see the different possibility to solve it. Don’t say this does not happen in my company and hence can’t do. Please note: The interviewer is trying to see whether you fit in his company or not or how well you embrace change.
Not able to explain the answer
This happens because of lack of preparation. My question to you guys how many of you guys prepare before an interview and the answer is very few and those who do prepare are basically gulping up from internet (the Google). There is no originality so when you say this example is yours the interviewer is already aware that this can be found in the 5th website of the google search result.
Prepare before interviews especially the once you want. Use Google (no issues) but still try to be original. Explain in simple plain language or words/Sentence not a place to show off your oxford dictionary.
All the best—Hope this helps.
